Audition with EOT!

Please prepare 16 bars of a song that best showcases your vocal range, in your preferred key. Bring sheet music, as a pianist will be available. No a cappella performances or recorded music, please.

For the dance portion, wear or bring appropriate attire—no sandals or flip-flops. There may also be readings from the script.

If available, bring a current resume and headshot. Be ready to provide any schedule conflicts during the rehearsal period.

Rehearsals take place Monday through Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL - AUDITION DATES: JUNE 29 & 30 - 7pm

CAROLE KING:

(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 18-30) An aspiring singer/songwriter. A unique, appealing, funny and vulnerable girl from a Jewish family in Brooklyn. Talented, good natured, unassuming and often the peace maker in difficult situations. A reluctant star with no pretense and a passion for music.

Vocal range: Eb3 – Eb5

 

GERRY GOFFIN:

(Leading Role, Male-presenting 18-30) Carole’s boyfriend, songwriting partner and eventual husband. Innately sympathetic, wounded and tortured. An ambitious artist always striving for more.

Vocal range: D3 – A4

 

BARRY MANN:

(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 18-30) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Cynthia. He is good natured, appealing & neurotic. Ambitious, but likeable.

Vocal range: C3 – A4

 

CYNTHIA WEIL:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 18-30) A songwriter who becomes romantically involved with Barry. Carole’s best friend. She is sophisticated, smart & chic with a quick wit. Although self-confident and sarcastic, she is also extremely likeable.

Vocal range: G3 – E5

 

DON KIRSHNER:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 40-60) An influential music publisher and producer. He is a fast talking, energetic force of nature. Powerful, direct & sometimes intimidating, but he has a real affinity for his writers and artists. A hit maker.

Vocal range: A2 – C#4

 

GENIE KLEIN:

(Featured Role, Female-presenting, 40-50) Carole’s Jewish mother. Once an aspiring playwright, she has been broken down by life & her husband’s infidelity. Protective of Carole and unforgiving of her husband’s mistakes. May double in Ensemble.

Vocal range: Any

 

NEIL SEDAKA:

(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 20-30) A singer-songwriter. May double in Ensemble.

Vocal range: A#3 – G#4

 

THE DRIFTERS:

(Featured Roles, Male-presenting, 20-30) Members of the doo-wop group, The Drifters. Black Actors required. Doubles in the Ensemble.

THE SHIRELLES:

(Featured Roles, Female-presenting, 20-30) Members of the pop group The Shirelles. Black Actors required. Doubles in the Ensemble.

ENSEMBLE:

A multitalented ensemble who will portray members of Carole’s inner circle as well as famous musical groups that Carole, Gerry, Cynthia, and Barry wrote for. Dance skills are a plus.

CABARET - AUDITION DATES: AUGUST 24 & 25 - 7pm

SALLY BOWLES:

(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) A British cabaret singer at the Kit Kat Club. Quirky and flighty. Struggles with knowing the darkness of the reality of her life and has woeful luck in her relationships with men. Must act, sing, and dance well; comfortable with moments of intimacy and bawdy/ suggestive staging/ choreography.

Vocal range: E3 – C5

 

EMCEE:

(Leading Role, Male-presenting but gender ambiguous, 20-35) Host at the Kit Kat Club– a gender-nonconforming- presenting, exuberant figure; comfortable with being close to the audience; dark, comedic, sinister, vulgar…yet lovable; requires a strong presence that is playful and mysterious. Must act, sing (some in German), move well, and be comfortable with bawdy/suggestive staging/choreography.

Vocal range: C3 – G4

 

CLIFF BRADSHAW:

(Leading Role, Male-presenting, 25-35) An American novelist and English teacher traveling to Berlin. Through his journey he explores the many facets and complexities of his sexuality, politics, and artistic goals.) Must act and sing well, comfortable with stage movement, light dance, and moments of intimacy.

Vocal range: C#3 – E4

 

FRAULIEIN SCHNEIDER:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 45-65) A landlady who rents rooms to Cliff, Sally, and several other characters in her large flat. She is alone and is resigned to her place in life, but secretly longs for companionship. She is very critical of some people while looking the other way with others; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz). Must act and sing well; comfortable with moments of intimacy

Vocal range: Eb3 – B4

 

HERR SCHULTZ:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 50-60) A Jewish fruit shop owner who falls in love with Fraulein Schneider; sweet, lovable, and adoring; heartbreakingly naïve about the political turmoil in Germany. Must act and sing well; comfortable with stage movement, light dance (waltz), and moments of intimacy.

Vocal range: C3 – G4

 

ERNST LUDWIG:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 25-45) A friendly and likable German, takes English lessons from Cliff, and smuggles funds for the Nazi party; comfortable with stage movement and light dance (waltz); and sing in German.

Vocal range: D3 – F#4

 

FRAULEIN KOST:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 25-40) A sex worker who rents in Fraulein Schneider’s boarding house; larger than life personality, quick witted and sharp tongued; should be comfortable exhibiting a strong sexual and commanding nature; must act and move well and sing in German

Vocal range: F#3 – Eb5

 

KIT KAT GIRLS AND BOYS:

(Ensemble Roles, 18-30) These performers are often in salacious situations and costumes. They are an eclectic mix of types and aren’t necessarily a matching unit. It is very important they act, sing, dance / move well and with confidence. They will be part of various scenes in and out of the Club; should be comfortable interacting with the audience and comfortable with bawdy/suggestive staging/choreography; also sing in German

MY FAIR LADY - AUDITION DATES: DECEMBER 14 & 15 - 7pm

ELIZA DOOLITTLE:

(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) A flower girl who works outside Convent Garden. Strong willed and Cockney.

Vocal range: A3 – G5

 

HENRY HIGGINS:

(Leading Role, Male-presenting, 35-60) A world renowned phonetist of the upper class British society.

Vocal range: B2 – E4

 

COLONEL PICKERING:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 50-70) A former British officer and author. Friends with Henry Higgins and a fellow phonetics enthusiast.

Vocal range: C3 – D4

 

FREDDY EYNSFORD-HILL:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 20-30) A young, upper class British man who falls in love with Eliza.

Vocal range: C3 – F4

 

ALFTRED P. DOOLITTLE:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 50-70) Eliza’s boisterous and charismatic father.

CRAZY FOR YOU - AUDITION DATES: FEBRUARY 8 & 9 - 7pm

BOBBY CHILD:

(Leading Role, Male-presenting, 20-30) A wealthy, charming young man, initially working for his mother’s bank. He dreams of being a Broadway dancer and goes to Nevada to foreclose on a theater. There, he falls in love with Polly Baker. Bobby is energetic, comic, and extremely romantic, a dreamer who wants more out of life than the bank job he’s been saddled with. Strong tap skills required.

Vocal range: Baritone. A3 – F4

POLLY BAKER:

(Leading Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) A spunky, strong-willed young woman who works at the rundown theater (and post office) in Nevada. The only woman within 50 miles. She is not impressed by Bobby at first, as she believes he’s there to close her theater, but she eventually falls for him. Polly is a determined and independent woman who loves the theater. Tap skills preferred.

Vocal range: Mezzo. G#4/Ab4 – D#5/Eb5

 

LANK HAWKINS:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 30-40) A somewhat antagonistic owner of the Deadrock Saloon: intense, frustrated and manic at times. Provides comedy but is also the main opposer of Bobby and ‘the show’ as he loves Polly himself. The object of Irene’s desires.

Vocal range: E3 – G3

 

IRENE ROTH:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 30-40) Bobby’s wealthy fiancée in New York, who is unaware of Bobby’s true feelings for Polly. She is glamorous but somewhat superficial and oblivious to Bobby’s growing affection for Polly.

Vocal range: Mezzo. G#4/Ab4 – A♯5/B♭5

 

BELA ZANGLER:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 40-60) The Hungarian impresario who runs a theater in New York City. Bela is an eccentric and flamboyant character, often comedic, who serves as the show’s comic foil. He has an over-the-top personality and a penchant for dramatic flair.

Vocal range: Baritone. C3 – F4

 

EUGENE FODOR:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 40-60) Eccentric English travel writer, full of English idioms and forms a comic chirpy couple with his sister Patricia.

Vocal range: Baritone. D3 – F4

 

PATRICIA FODOR:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 40-60) Eccentric English travel writer, full of English idioms and forms a comic chirpy couple with her brother Eugene.

Vocal range: Soprano. D#4/Eb4 – F5

 

TESS:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) Follies dance director featured heavily in the ensemble numbers as a key performer/dancer. The object of Bela Zangler’s desires (which she rebuffs), she is confident, assertive and attractive. Can deliver a punch line. Tap skills required.

Vocal range: Mezzo with a strong belt

EVERETT BAKER:

(Supporting Role, Male-presenting, 50-60) Polly’s father. Warm, friendly and befuddled; he is gently comic – always reminiscing about how lovely Polly’s mother was when she performed in the Gaiety Theatre. He falls instantly in love with Lottie Child when she arrives in Deadrock.

Vocal range: Baritone. C#3/Db3 – C#4/Db4

 

LOTTIE CHILD:

(Supporting Role, Female-presenting, 50-60) Bobby’s rich, business-orientated and controlling mother who gives him an allowance and wants him to forego his ideas of being in musical theatre and make a career in the bank. Non-singing or dancing.

PATSY:

(Featured Role, Female-presenting, 20-30) Dim-witted Follies girl who, at times, is oblivious in hiding the secret of Bobby’s deception. Tap skills required.

Vocal range: Any

 

MOOSE:

(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Moose is the beloved, but dim-witted, denizen of Deadrock. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.

Vocal range: Tenor

 

MINGO:

(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.

Vocal range: Baritone

 

SAM:

(Featured Role, Male-presenting, 25-40) A member of the Cowboy trio who sings in tight harmony. Good comedian and strong singer. Tap skills preferred.

Vocal range: Tenor

 

FOLLIES GIRLS:

(Ensemble Roles, Female-presenting, 18-30) The dancers of the Zangler Follies, each with their own personality, who travel to Deadrock as a favor to Bobby and become enamored with the slow-moving lifestyle. All these men are involved in staged gun fights for the tourists.Strong tap skills required.

DEADROCK GUYS:

(Ensemble Roles, Male-presenting, 18-45) The inhabitants of Deadrock, Nevada. Slow-moving and lazy with no real ambition or drive, until the Follies girls come into town. Tap skills preferred.

Characters must present as the gender written per the licensing company. However, actors are not restricted to audition for roles based on gender identity.
