Please prepare 16 bars of a song (in your key) that showcases your voice.

Bring sheet music; a pianist will be provided.

No acapella or recorded music.

Wear or bring proper dance attire (no sandals or flip-flops).

Bring Character/Jazz Shoes.

There may be readings from the script.
Bring a current resume and headshot if you have them.
Be prepared to provide any conflicts you may have during the rehearsal period.
We rehearse Monday-Thursday from 7:00 - 10:00 PM and
Sunday from 1:00 - 5:00 PM


All roles are unpaid.

Pursuant to EOT’s Mission, actors of all abilities and ethnicities are strongly encouraged to submit. 

Roles are as follows:


P.T. BARNUM:
(Lead Male) legendary showman who created "The Greatest Show on Earth", charming, idealistic dreamer who tends to exaggerate, ability to tap dance, juggle four balls, walk a tightrope, and perform basic acrobatics are a plus (but not required). Vocal range: Baritone

CHARITY BARNUM:
(Lead Female) Barnum’s wife. Practical minded, women's suffragist, grounded in reality with a strong disposition but with a sweet teasing sense of humor, not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get down to work, ability to juggle four balls is a plus (but not required). Vocal range: Mezzo

JENNY LIND:
(Supporting Female) known as the Swedish nightingale (even sings/speaks in Swedish), beautiful and flirtatious, underneath her pretty demeanor is a strong-willed woman who manipulates the people around her to get what she wants, must not be afraid of heights (physical and vocal). Vocal range: Coloratura Soprano

JAMES BAILEY/RINGMASTER:
(Supporting Role) Circus Ringmaster who eventually becomes Barnum's Partner in the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Vocal range: Baritone

JOICE HETH:
(Featured Female) “The oldest woman alive” and a huge success in Barnum’s show. Character actress/singer who moves well, ability to play piano a plus but is not required. African American actress desired. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Alto

TOM THUMB:
(Featured Male) “The smallest man in the world” and a huge success in Barnum’s show. Acrobatic athletic dancer with a small physical frame. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Tenor

BLUES SINGER:
(Featured Role) Smooth blues singer in Barnum’s show. African American actress desired. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Alto

AMOS SCUDDER:
(Featured Role) Owner of American Museum and Barnum's first Partner. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Any

JULIUS GOLDSCHMIDT:
(Featured Role) Jenny Lind’s manager. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Any

CHESTER LYMAN:
(Featured Role) Joice Heth’s manager. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Any

SHERWOOD STRATTON:
(Featured Role) Tom Thumb’s father. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Any

MRS. STRATTON:
(Featured Role) Tom Thumb’s mother. Doubles in ensemble. Vocal range: Any

WILTON:
(Featured Role) Barnum’s assistant. Doubles in the ensemble. Vocal range: Any

EDGAR TEMPLETON:
(Featured Role) Political party boss. Doubles in the Ensemble. Vocal range: Any

HUMBERT MORRISSEY:
(Featured Role) Political party boss. Doubles in the Ensemble. Vocal range: Any

ENSEMBLE:
There are numerous minor roles for the ensemble. These include Tumblers, Jugglers, Clowns, Aerialists, Acrobats, Gymnasts, Bricklayers, Passersby, Museum Patrons, Strong Men, Beefeaters, The “Mob” in General, The Bridgeport Pageant Choir, and Bands of Every Size, Shape and Description.
